SALTEK SCG-S: A Modern Replacement for SOULÉ / TRIDELTA CLS Voltage-Limiting Devices
Share
Many European railway networks use voltage-limiting devices (VLDs) of the SOULÉ / TRIDELTA CLS type to connect exposed conductive parts to the running rails, protect track circuits and support cathodic protection. A large share of these units is now approaching the end of its service life, and operators are looking for a modern replacement.
Why older VLDs become a problem
- leakage current of up to 50 mA at operating voltage,
- an ageing protective element,
- no simple way to verify the device status,
- special inspection procedures in the field.
SALTEK SCG-S as the replacement
The SALTEK SCG-S combines a Class 1 voltage-limiting function with contactless signalling of the operating status. The device state can be checked without track closures or dismantling, and the signalling also shows when the device has activated and switched to its low-impedance state.
Key advantages
- leakage current below 1 µA,
- status verification from a distance of up to 2 m,
- compliance with EN 50526-2 and EN 50122-1,
- lower stray-current effects, longer infrastructure life and reduced operating costs.
Available variants
The SCG-S series is available in four versions, distinguished by the colour of the signalling module:
- SCG-250-150-S-R02
- SCG-250-250-S-R02
- SCG-250-500-S-R02
- SCG-250-750-S-R02
The right type depends on the traction system, the required protection level, short-circuit conditions and the installation site, so the replacement should always be selected together with the manufacturer's technical support.
